El ecólogo Ernesto Ráez Luna es el nuevo Director Ejecutivo del IBC

The Assembly of Associates of the Instituto del Bien Común – IBC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Ernesto Ráez Luna to the position of Executive Director, effective as of February 1, 2021.

Ernesto Ráez Luna is a renowned tropical ecologist with extensive experience in institutional management, interdisciplinary research and education in conservation, environment and development with a focus on the Andean-Amazon region of Peru and the Colombian Chocó.

Before his appointment to the IBC, Ernesto advised several entities, including the Peruvian Ministry of the Environment, where he led the Initiative Against Illegal Mining, as well as the Public Front Team for COP20. He was Director of Science and Development at the Center for Environmental Sustainability of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia and founded the School of Economics and Environmental Management at Universidad Ruiz de Montoya.

A biologist trained at the Universidad Nacional Agraria – La Molina, Ernesto has a master’s degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Florida. In 2008, he received the Nature Conservation Award from The Whitley Fund for Nature and World Wildlife Fund.

The Assembly of Associates of IBC and the management team wish to thank Dr. Richard Chase Smith once again for the vision and leadership provided to the Institute over two decades. We trust that this important transition that began in January 2020 will take place smoothly, allowing us to continue developing together with local populations, and advance our work in favor of the adequate management of the Common in Peru.

La Asamblea de Socios del Instituto del Bien Común – IBC se complace en anunciar el nombramiento del Sr. Ernesto Ráez Luna para el cargo de Director Ejecutivo, efectivo a partir del 1 de febrero de 2021.

Ernesto Ráez Luna es un reconocido ecólogo tropical con amplia experiencia en gestión institucional, investigación transdisciplinaria y educación en conservación, medio ambiente y desarrollo, particularmente en la región andino-amazónica del Perú y el Chocó colombiano.

Antes de su nombramiento en el IBC, Ernesto asesoró a varias entidades, incluyendo el Ministerio del Ambiente del Perú, donde lideró la iniciativa sectorial contra la minería ilegal, así como el equipo del Frente Público para la COP20. Fue Director de Ciencia y Desarrollo en el Centro para la Sostenibilidad Ambiental de la Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia y fundó la Escuela Profesional de Economía y Gestión Ambiental de la Universidad A. Ruiz de Montoya.

Biólogo formado en la Universidad Nacional Agraria – La Molina, Ernesto posee una maestría en Estudios Latinoamericanos por la Universidad de Florida. En 2008, recibió el Premio a la Conservación de la Naturaleza otorgado por The Whitley Fund for Nature y WWF.

La Asamblea de Socios y el equipo profesional del IBC agradecen una vez más al Dr. Richard Chase Smith por la visión y el liderazgo brindado al IBC a lo largo de dos décadas.
